On June 13, 2018, Green Omaha Coalition and the Omaha Area Higher Education Sustainability Alliance (OAHESA) hosted a forum on the “End of Single-Stream Commercial Recycling in Omaha” in Creighton University‘s space at the Highlander Accelerator Building. This was a packed stakeholder meeting with haulers and mid- to large- scale institutions discussing the changes made on June 1st by First Star Recycling to replace its single-stream commercial recycling system with a dual stream.

The discussion was organized and facilitated by Sally Hopley of Verdis Group and Green Omaha Coalition. Dale Gubbels of First Star Recycling provided an explanation of the changes and reasons behind them. Attendees asked questions, provided insight, and suggested potential solutions.

Verdis Group has summarized and confirmed the changes to commercial stream recycling, and has provided recommendations to organizations in a blog you can read here:  http://verdisgroup.com/update-on-omahas-commercial-recycling/

Thank you to Verdis Group for providing this information and for sponsoring the event!
